Haldane Martin’s award-winning furniture designs are inspired by fashion, music, architecture, culture, nature and above all, his wish to make the world a better place.
His focus is on sustainability and empowerment. The Zulu Mama chair is handwoven by a non profit organisation in South Africa. The basket seat is made from recycled polyethylene, partly derived from recycled milk bottles. The stainless steel frames are 80 percent recyclable and are shaped by a black economically empowered business.
The use of lighweight stainless steel frames and laminated plywood seats in the Weightless Range was inspired by the revolutionary Eames chairs of the 1940’s and South African wirework sculptures.
Haldane’s creations are both elegant and functional with an unpredictable use of textures and colours. The clean, uncluttered lines combine contemporary design and comfort. His commitment to quality is demonstrated by the high standard of materials and workmanship that go into producing his range.
The presence of his designs in hotels, cafés, shops, spas, restaurants, game lodges and homes both in South Africa and abroad is testimony to his success.
His designs have graced the five star Arabella Hotel and Spa in the Cape, Singita Lebombo Lodge, considered one of the premier game lodges in Africa, Little Kulala Camp, a luxury lodge in Namibia, Serenité Health Spa in Cape Town as well as company boardrooms, offices, exclusive private residences and both indoor and outdoor restaurants and cafés.
His international status is growing with his collection now represented in South Africa, Australia, Norway, Sweden, Canada and the United Arab Emirates.
